The Hillingdon Herald sought views of the residents of England’s Uxbridge town on the pros of living in a place known for its rich and often enigmatic history. Reporter Timothy Otieno spent a day at Uxbridge and met with some of the town’s residents who had this to say:

I’ve lived in Uxbridge for the last 43 years and for me, it’s the women that make this town vibrant; one of them being my wife. In fact, she’s right now inside one of the shopping malls making her hair beautiful just to keep up with these young girls in town.”

Raymond Mattei, 73, Retired Chauffeur

I like the Leisure Centre because I go there to swim with my two kids. Sometimes a mother just needs a nice place to chill and relax and that’s exactly where I usually go. My husband and I also really love going to the RAF Northolt Museum. The place has a truly unique ambience.”

Hayley Ross, 34, Stay-at-home Mother

“Our family moved here when I was young so I have a lot of attachment to this place. As a young boy I really used to enjoy going to the cinema here in Uxbridge. I still enjoy going there but not so much so these days because I have to work now.”

Kanaan Tamimi, 28, Warehouse Worker

"I really love the recreational park!!! It’s honestly my favourite place to go to in Uxbridge. It's green most of the year and the coffee shops and cáfes down along Windsor Street, I believe, are among the most beautiful in the whole of England."

Grace Bunalade, 17, Student

“The town centre is really close to where I live and has a good selection of places to go out to eat and drink. Nearly every major mall has a cinema complex, which is a good thing. Generally, this area has a good mix of people and a great atmosphere.”

Joshua Gill, 24, Store Manager

"There's no place quite like Uxbridge! It has a rich history dating back to the 5th century and has steadily grown since then to the beautiful place it is now. Perhaps its greatest landmark is the Battle of Britain bunker located here; a historic site that is now a tourist attraction."

Tony Mitchell, 82, Historian at the Uxbridge History Society
